Lockdown Harvest

Carla, Hannah and Amelia were kept busy during lockdown when they decided to plant their own vegetable garden. Mr. Kelly was very impressed with the wonderful carrots, scallions, and green beans they brought into school recently. Well done girls, we're super impressed. You certainly have green fingers!!!

The Gruffalo and Biodiversity!

We have been working hard towards achieving our Green Flag for Biodiversity so this month we have been looking at Woodland habitats and learning about Food webs. We read the book The Gruffalo and talked about all the woodland creatures that the mouse meets in the deep, dark woods! We made our own food web based on the characters.

We played online games to learn more about food webs and food chains and different woodland creatures.

At our Aistear stations we reinacted the story of the Gruffalo and made our own 'Deep, Dark, Wood'.

We made Gruffalo Jigsaws and played The Gruffalo Board Game. We made sure that everyone took turns and followed the rules.

We made Gruffalo masks at our Art Station and then designed our own Scary Creatures!

We put the story pictures in order and labelled all the parts of the Gruffalo.

We even made all the different woodland creatures using play dough.

A Spring in our Step

The children in Mr. Gibbons’ room went on an afternoon nature walk on Friday, February 7th. We examined nests in the trees, buds on the trees and springs flowers in the soil. He also planted some of our plants donated to us by Janet from Bee Aware.

Bee Aware Workshop - January 31st

We had a fantastic day of excitement and exploring  around the grounds of the school. The pupils from 1st -6th class engaged a Bee Aware Workshop. We examined how bees play such an important part in the lives we live. We also came up with some wonderful ideas as to how we could attract more bees to our school. Thank you to Janet from Bee Aware for coming to visit Kilrickle.
