Extension to Kilrickle National School Highly Commended

We are delighted that our new school extension was Highly Commended in the Best Educational Building section at the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland or RIAI Awards recently. Not only that but the project received a special mention in the Architectural Association of Ireland Awards (AAI) 2017 too. Our school's project even features in the current issue of Architectural Ireland. This new addition to our school received international attention also; being a featured piece on some important architectural websites focusing on the educational setting. Please click on the links below to find out more. Many thanks must once again be given to all those involved in making this project a reality. It is a great source of pride for our school and one which generations of children attending Kilrickle National School will benefit from for years to come.

Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal

Today, Ms. Maura Larkin; local representative of Team Hope collected Christmas Shoe Boxes full of treats and goodies for children less fortunate in foreign countries. These shoe boxes were kindly donated by the pupils of Kilrickle NS. This is a fantastic project and offers a great opportunity to spread the Christmas cheer. It's a reminder of how blessed and fortunate we are while also receiving the gift of giving and bringing the joy of Christmas to children elsewhere. To find out more about where our shoe boxes go please visit Team Hope's website by clicking on the following link: Stories from Team Hope Christmas Shoe Box Appeal
Thank You Certificate from Team Hope sent to our school. Míle Buíochas!

Baboró International Arts Festival for Children

The children of Kilrickle National School experienced Baboró; an international arts festival for children, which took place in theatres all around Galway this week.

Junior & Senior Infants along with First Class went to An Taibhdhearc Theatre in Galway City to see 'What Does Red Do On Thursday', while Second to Sixth Class went to watch 'They Called Her Vivaldi' presented in the Town Hall Theatre, also in the city.

Despite the rainy conditions it didn't put a dampener on the day's experience for the pupils as Baboró while very entertaining also opens the imagination of children and inspires them to see beyond conventional performances we are used to seeing today.

For more information on the shows please click on their names.

First Aid Course in our School

A basic first aid course was held in our school over the past two Wednesday evenings. Fifth and sixth class students learned basic first aid; including how to put someone into the recovery position, CPR first respondents and how to use a defibrillator.

The course facilitator was Nurse Ann Gardener and we would like to thank Ann for conducting the course in our school to the pupils, teachers and members of the community.

Also, practiced was how to fit a triangular bandage and other common bandage strappings.

It was of great benefit to all. Thank you to all those involved.

Check out our 'Love you to Pieces' Mother's Day cards.

In the senior room we made Tea-rrific Mother's Day Cards with messages based on pins like 'I love you a latte' and 'I cannot espresso how much I love you' 😉

Happy Mother's Day to all our Mammy's and Nanny's here in Kilrickle National School and throughout the land. We hope you have a wonderful day.
