The school children made another fantastic effort this year dressing up for Halloween!!! Creatures of all sorts could be seen haunting the school last Friday. It was clear that a lot of thought was given to this years fancy dress with a story behind each and every costume. The childeren played halloween games in their classrooms and prizes awarded in the fancy dress competition. Well done to all the children and also to our parents for making this day such an enjoyable one!

Room on the Broom!
Something strange has been happening in Kilrickle these past 2 weeks! Our Junior and Senior Infants have all turned into witches as our classroom was turned into a Potions Lab! After reading Julia Donaldson's 'Room on the Broom' our little witches and warlocks have been making some disgusting potions and casting spells!
Mmmmm extra worms!!!!
I wonder who we'll get to drink this????
They also made their own scary witches at the Art Station and acted out the story.
"Iggety Ziggety Zaggety Zooooooom!!!"
There's plenty of room on this broom!

Gardening with Kay
Our Heritage in
School Gardening Expert; Kay Synott came back to visit our school in early
October to see how our garden had developed over the summer holidays and to guide
us in preparing it for the winter.
She was amazed at
how successful our Summer Garden Maintenance Rota was and complimented everyone
involved. The remaining vegetables in the garden were harvested and distributed
amongst the children in the school. There were still some carrots, leeks,
spring onions and beetroot available.
The beds and path
ways were then weeded. The beds were then covered over by the school recycling some
old carpet we had in storage. This will act as a weed barrier and prevent weeds
taking over the garden during the winter months. It will also save us from some
nasty weeding when we go planting again.
Finally, Kay help
us to plant perennial flowers in the outside bed that surrounds the garden. Perennials
flower every year and are low maintenance. They will also attract bees and
other useful invertebrate to our garden. This will add to the biodiversity of
the school.
All pupils got a
chance to harvest, weed and plant. This is great experience to bring back to
our own gardens at home!!!
Many thanks to Kay
for her help and we will definitely have her back later on in the year all
going well. Our garden is something to be very proud of. Well done to all!!!!!

Autumn
Check out 1st, 2nd and 3rd class's hedgehogs! The children used pastels and art straws to create their hedgehogs. They chose their colours very carefully for them. They read the story 'Don't Hog The Hedge', watched a powerpoint about autumn and the changes it brings, did leaf rubbings and wrote an account about autumn.
